  From 1 October 2008 income tax rates and Working for Family Tax Credits are changing. We're currently updating our websites and publications to reflect these changes.
18 September 2008 Tax debt collection arrangement with the Australian Tax Office
  Are you a New Zealander living in Australia who owes tax debt to New Zealand Inland Revenue? Or an Australian living in New Zealand who owes tax debt to the Australian Tax Office? Under a new Article in New Zealand's tax treaty with Australia, Inland Revenue can now send tax debt cases to the Australian Tax Office to collect on our behalf, and vice versa.

26 June 2008 IRD numbers now 9 digits long
  Inland Revenue has begun issuing 9-digit IRD and GST numbers to all new customers. This means that some customers will have an 8-digit number and some customers a 9-digit number.
19 June 2008 Changes to personal income tax and family tax credit in Budget 2008
  Budget 2008, delivered on 22 May, announced new personal income tax rates and thresholds and new family tax credit rates and thresholds, which have now been passed into law.
18 June 2008 Charities that have not registered with the Charities Commission by 1 July 2008
  These administrative guidelines are intended to provide clarity about the tax position for entities that have not completed the process of registering with the Charities Commission by 1 July 2008.

26 February 2008 Losses from finance company investments - can you claim your losses as a bad debt?
  We have had a number of enquiries from investors in failed finance companies asking whether they can write off the amounts they have lost as a bad debt, and claim a tax deduction. As many of these finance companies are now in the hands of liquidators or receivers, investors are uncertain about the tax rules which might apply in cases where they are unlikely to receive full repayment of their investment. Our recommendation is that you should obtain professional advice before making any decision about writing off bad debts.
11 February 2008 The process of applying for an IRD number is changing from 18 February 2008
  The IR594 and IR595 are being replaced with the new IR595 and process from 18 February 2008.
18 December 2007 Property transactions - questions and answers
