In the 2024 tax year there were 667,217 taxpayers registered for GST and filing returns. This number is a 0.4% decrease from the 2023 tax year.

The graph above shows the number of GST filers by turnover band from the year to March 2002 to the year to March 2024. The number of GST filers with higher than $60,000 turnover is increasing year on year. This increase was slower in 2024 than it was in 2023. The number of GST taxpayers reporting turnover greater than $1 million grew by 1.2% in the 2024 tax year, compared to 4.7% in the previous year. The number of taxpayers with turnover between $250,001 and $1 million grew by 1.4% in the 2024 tax year compared to 2.4% in the previous year.

The number of customers reporting turnover between $1 and $60,000 fell by 1.6% in the year to March 2024 compared to a fall of 1.8% in the previous year, with taxpayers with no turnover falling by 3.1%.
