Number of KiwiSaver members by scheme entry method as at 30 June
This graph shows the number of active or provisional KiwiSaver members as at 30 June by their current scheme entry method.
This graph shows 3 lines, plotting increases of active or provisional KiwiSaver members who joined a scheme through 1 of the following methods: Active choice, automatic enrolment to an employer’s chosen scheme and automatic enrolment to a default scheme. The vertical axis of this graph shows the cumulative total of enrolled KiwiSaver members. The horizontal axis shows data from June 2013 to June 2023.
Notes:
- This graph includes provisional members for 2019 and earlier years, then from April 2020 only reports active members.
- From April 2020 KiwiSaver information is reported from a new system.
Between June 2013 and June 2023, the number of active/provisional members:
- who joined a scheme through active choice increased from 1.4 million to 2.4 million
- automatically enrolled to an employer’s nominated scheme increased from 190,110 to 211,246
- automatically enrolled to a default scheme increased from 527,320 to 652,304.
