For 2023 the average amount of donations tax credit (DTC) that was claimed per person was $897. This is an increase of 4.2% on the average DTC claimed per person in the 2022 tax year.  

 

This graph has 1 line that shows the average donation tax credit claimed per person between the 2004 and 2023 tax years. This line increases from $261 in 2004 to $897 in 2023. There is 1 sharp increase of $200 in 2009 

This graph shows the average DTC claimed per person between the 2004 and 2023 tax years. In 2009 the Government removed the upper limit for the total amount of tax credits a person can claim which explains the $200 increase in average DTC claimed per claimant in 2009.  This increase partly reflects that some DTC claims would previously have been capped, and partly reflects that some DTC claims were previously split between couples.
