Total donation tax credits claimed by type of recipient organisation

For the 2023 tax year there was a total of $949 million in donations for which donation tax credits (DTC) were paid.

We track donations given to:

schools and kindergartens
religious organisations
other donee organisations.

This graph has 3 lines that show the total donations made in millions of dollars that have had donations tax credits claimed. The graph shows changes between 2012 and 2023. Donations to schools and kindergartens increased 9% from $69 million in 2012 to $75 million in 2023. Donations made to religious organisations have increased 68% from $355 million in 2012 to $596 million in 2023. Donations to other organisations have increased 14% from $243 million in 2012 to $278 million in 2023.
