This graph shows the number of student loan borrowers by New Zealand-based, and overseas-based, as at the end of each quarter.

This graph has multiple vertical bars tracking the number of New Zealand-based and overseas-based borrowers. The vertical axis shows the number of borrowers. The horizontal axis shows quarterly data from June 2013 to 30 June 2024.

As at 30 June 2024 the:

  • Total number of New Zealand-based student loan borrowers decreased by 4.3% from 530,550 in June 2023 to 507,619 in June 2024.
  • Total number of overseas-based student loan borrowers increased by 5.5% from 104,685 in June 2023 to 110,389 in June 2024.
  • Total number of all student loan borrowers decreased by 2.7% from 635,235 in June 2023 to 618,008 in June 2024.

Notes:

  • A borrower is any person who has drawn from the Student Loan Scheme and not yet repaid in full.
