You can apply to permanently stop paying child support if the child was conceived because you were sexually assaulted.

There does not need to be a conviction for you to get this exemption, but you will need to show that an offence took place. For example, a police report or letter from your doctor.

If you were under 16 at the time of the assault, you do not need to provide evidence.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • your IRD number
  • your postal address and contact details
  • the name of the child the exemption will apply to
  • any supporting details and documentation, like a report from ACC, the police or a social worker, or a letter from Victim Support, your doctor or a church rep.

What happens next

We'll review your application and will contact you if we need any further information.

We'll send you a letter saying if you met the requirements for an exemption. If you did, we’ll also send a letter showing you have nothing to pay for that child.
