We will send you a renewal notice

We will send you a renewal notice in January or February of the year your exemption expires.

Fill in the application

You will need your IRD number.

Apply in myIR

An exemption application can be completed in myIR.

Go to ‘More’ in your Income Tax account. You’ll find the Tailored Tax application under the Manage account heading. Choose the Certificate of Exemption application.

If you are unable to apply online, you can send us the IR332 form.

We process your application

We aim to process your application within 10 working days.

Please note that applications made during February and March may take longer than this.

We’ll send your certificate to you as soon as your application is completed.

If you have myIR you'll see a copy of your certificate of exemption there. This lets you know we approved your application.

Show your renewed certificate to your payer

You need to show your renewed certificate of exemption to your payer so they know not to deduct any tax from your payments.

As you have an exemption you do not need to give your payer a Tax rate notification for contractors IR330C form.

My responsibilities

You need to renew your certificate of exemption every year.
