Number of KiwiSaver members by enrolment method as at 30 June
This graph shows the number of active or provisional KiwiSaver members as at the end of each financial year
This graph has 3 lines showing active or provisional members who enrolled in KiwiSaver. This is through opting in through a provider, opting in through an employer or being automatically enrolled by employers. The vertical axis shows the number of KiwiSaver members. The horizontal axis represents data from 30 June 2013 to 30 June 2023.
Notes:
- Members who were automatically enrolled have a provisional period of 8 weeks in which they can decide to opt out.
- Enrolment method is the original enrolment method used to join KiwiSaver.
- From April 2020, the definition of the enrolment method has changed.
As at June 2023:
- 3.3 million individuals were enrolled in KiwiSaver, an increase from the 2.1 million in June 2013
- 1.3 million individuals joined through automatic enrolment, an increase from 0.8 million in June 2013
- 269,188 individuals opted in through an employer, an increase from 256,302 in June 2013
- 1.7 million individuals opted in through a provider, an increase from 1.1 million in June 2013.
