Follow these steps to cancel your child support estimation if your income has gone up unexpectedly and if we’ve recommended you cancel it.
You can cancel your estimate before or during the year you estimated for, not afterwards. Child support is based on the tax year 1 April to 31 March.
Important: Cancelling your estimation removes it for the whole tax year and can give you a big bill to catch up on. You cannot undo a cancellation. Always contact us before you cancel to make sure it’s the best option for you – it may be better to re-estimate your income instead.
Before you start
You'll need:
- the year you want to cancel (1 April to 31 March)
- to check that your contact details are up to date in myIR.
Go to your child support account in myIR
Then select 'More...'
Select 'Cancel your child support income estimations'
Enter your details and submit
Log in to myIR
You can also cancel your estimation:
- as a message in myIR
- by calling us
- by sending us a letter.
Check you've included the right information and any documents we need.
Send us your documents at:

What happens next
When you cancel your estimate, we recalculate your child support assessment using your original income.
You may have to make a payment to catch up. This will show on your statement of account. If you do not pay by the due date, you’ll be charged penalties.
