Follow these steps to register a voluntary agreement with us when you have agreed on an amount of child support and want us to collect it for you.

Both parents must sign the voluntary agreement, but only the receiving carer can register in myIR. If you register in myIR, we’ll send an alert for the paying (liable) parent to approve the agreement online.

How voluntary agreements work

Before you start

You will need all of these:

  • IRD numbers for you and your children
  • your bank account details
  • your child's birth certificate
  • proof of parentage
  • information about the other parent or parents.

You’ll also need to log in to your myIR account, if you have one.

To register by post, download the form under ‘Other ways to do this’.

In myIR, select the 'I want to...' tab

Select 'Apply for child support'

Fill out the form and submit

Log in to myIR

You can also fill out the Registration of voluntary agreement for child support – IR102 form.

Both parents or carers must sign the form.

Send it to us at:

What happens next

You do not need to call us.

If the form is not signed by both parents, we’ll send the other parent either:

  • an alert saying they need to log in to myIR and approve the agreement within 7 days
  • a letter saying they need to agree in writing within 10 days.

If we do not get written agreement from the other parent, we’ll turn down your application.

If both parents confirm the agreement, we will register your child support within 2 weeks. After that, we’ll send both parents or carers a notice saying how much they should pay or receive.

  • If you are the paying (liable) parent, you have 30 days to make your first payment.
  • If you are the receiving carer, you will get paid by the 23rd day of each month if the paying parent has paid on time.

My responsibilities

From now on, you'll always need to:

  • keep up payments if you are the paying parent
  • deal with debt as soon as possible
  • let us know if the child leaves care, starts working full time or, if 18 years old, leaves school.
