Follow these steps to register your company, trust or superannuation fund as a portfolio investment entity (PIE) or PIE investor proxy (PIP).

Before you start

Make sure:

  • you’re eligible to become a PIE
  • you know what type of PIE you want to set up.

Log in to your myIR account

Select 'Register for new tax accounts'

This is under 'Registration, application and enrolment'.

Fill out the form to register as a PIE

Then submit it to us.

What happens next

Your PIE registration will take effect from whichever of these dates is the latest.

  • The date your company, trust or superannuation fund was formed.
  • The start date in your registration form.
  • 30 days before the day we received the registration.

Do you need to change any details?

You can call us if you’re already registered as a PIE and want to change your PIE type. Call our Significant Enterprises team on 0800 443 553.

Or you can send a message in myIR.

You will need to give them the:

  • PIE's IRD number
  • new PIE type
  • effective date of change.
