Takapuna office closure | Takapuna office closure. The Takapuna office is relocating to a new address so will be closed from 22 November 4pm to 26 November 4pm. From 27 November you can find the new office at: 74 Taharoto Road Smales Farm, One NZ Building, Takapuna.

Some services unavailable 23 - 24 November | myIR, gateway services and our self-service phone line will not be available from 3pm Saturday 23 November to 9am Sunday 24 November while we do planned system testing. This will not affect any tax entitlements or payments scheduled during this time.

The Government declared the sustained rainfall from 26 January 2023 to 1 February 2023 an emergency event on 8 February 2023, upgraded from a medium-scale adverse event. Extra support is available for families, businesses and farmers.

Penalties and interest

If you let us know as soon as you reasonably can that you’ve been affected by the heavy rain and flooding, we can remit any late filing and payment penalties, and some interest. You’ll need to ask us to do this and have paid the core tax as soon as you reasonably can.  

For the January 2023 floods we can remove interest charged up to 30 April 2023 if you’re in the Northland, Auckland, Waikato or Bay of Plenty regions.

You may be able to get help through the income equalisation scheme if your income is affected by this event.

Income equalisation scheme – late deposits

You can make late deposits for the 2022 income year up to 31 May 2023.

Income equalisation scheme – early refunds

You can apply for the early refund of a deposit. Normally, income equalisation deposits aren’t available for refund until 12 months after they have been made.

Your application for an early refund must be in writing. It may take approximately 5 days to process.

The refund will be income in the year you make the application, unless you apply it to the previous income year.
