Tax on grants and relief payments for individuals

  • food
  • bedding
  • clothing
  • accommodation
  • loss of income.

Civil Defence payment - Work and Income

You will not be taxed on payments you get for food, bedding, clothing and accommodation, as these are private household expenses.

You will also not be taxed if you get a payment for loss of income, if your income is usually from either employment or a benefit. If you are self-employed you may need to pay tax on the payment.

Insurance payouts

If you received an insurance payout for loss of income, you may need to account for tax. Check the exact terms of your insurance policy to make sure.
